If NVIDIA makes agreements with Intel (or vice versa) for the development of future processors, AMD also makes deals. This time, we learn that the company is teaming up with OpenAI, and that the deal is clearly juicy. We’re talking here about a large number of next-generation AI GPUs, several tens of billions of dollars of investment and a stock price that explodes for the Reds. In short, AMD also knows how to do business!
6 Gigawatts of AMD GPUs in future OpenIA installations, the stock market price explodes!
In a nutshell, the company behind ChatGPT has signed a big deal with AMD. To put it simply, the Reds are to supply the hardware for the company’s future installations, and this represents an astronomical quantity of cards (yes, yes). Next year alone, the Reds will have to supply the equivalent of 1 GW of RADEON Instinct MI450, their future GPU for this sector. But the agreement is multi-year, and hardware deliveries should continue over the coming years. Eventually, OpenAI should have 6 GW of red GPUs in its servers.
In short, in terms of sales, it’s staggering: no less than $50 billion next year alone. What’s more, the company behind ChatGPT has acquired 10% of AMD shares, which has had the effect of sending the brand’s share price into a tailspin. We’re talking about a ” to the moon ” rise in the value of the company’s shares. They rose from $164 to $226, or +37.8%. Although the share price has calmed down a little, it’s currently hovering around $205.
Clearly, this agreement is beneficial for AMD, bringing in a lot of cash. This will support the company’s progress in the AI sector and, let’s face it, in gaming. This is where the company really needs it, especially given the Chameleon’s market share.
