PCB change for Ryzen 7 7800X3D?

On Reddit, one user, Denielsan1982, found himself somewhat perplexed by his Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Indeed, he thought it was a scam when he unpacked it and saw his processor’s PCB. It was bluish in color, but above all, lacking in surface components… And as stories of scams involving this processor have been reported, his fear was legitimate. Nevertheless, after testing, it turned out that the processor was an original and perfectly functional model.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D: AMD changes the PCB of its processors?

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3DAs you can see from the image above, the processor benefits from a different PCB from the one initially used by the brand. In terms of color, it tends towards blue, while the numerous surface capacitors are absent. What we’re dealing with here is a simplified version that’s probably easier to produce and therefore less expensive. The worst part of the story is that this new PCB can already be found on other models in the range. In particular, it can be found on the Ryzen 5 7500F and the Ryzen 5 7600X. However, it would appear that this new PCB isn’t just cheaper to produce, no, it also has a few disadvantages. Among these, we’re talking about a drop in the level of overclocking that would be consequential, since we’re talking about a potential drop of 300 MHz. Similarly, the Core Voltage should be higher at the same TDP. Several other surprising behaviors have been reported, such as lower temperatures even with a higher Core Voltage? After all, these are just initial feedbacks. It would be interesting to take a closer look at the changes in these revised models. In any case, it’s AMD that’s rubbing its hands, since the savings are being made by the company without any real impact on the final price. In fact, we’re curious to know how much the brand saves per processor.
