New Sony handheld console on the way?

Clearly, portable games consoles are on a roll. Since the launch of Valve’s Steam Deck, there have been countless launches of this type of product. We’ve had the ROG Ally from ASUS, the Claw from MSI and the Legion Go from Lenovo. However, other projects are in the pipeline, notably from Antec and Zotac. Here, we’re going to talk about a long-standing player: Sony. The brand could well be making a comeback with a new handheld console!

A new handheld console for Sony?

Console portable Sony Portal

Unfortunately, we have very few details about this new device. However, it would appear to be a portable machine, with the aim of overshadowing Nintendo’s Switch and Valve’s Steam Deck. What’s more, unlike the PlayStation Portal, Sony’s aim would be to offer a machine capable of running local games. This was clearly not the case with Portal, which was a player/controller for streaming games.

What’s more, the question of the on-board hardware immediately comes to mind, as a machine for playing games locally is quite different from one for displaying streaming games. However, it’s reasonable to assume that the brand will once again turn to AMD. The company already supplies the hardware for the brand’s PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles. It remains to be seen what the configuration of the APU running in the console will be.

It also remains to be seen how such a machine will be received by the public. What’s more, the competition looks set to be tough too. This new console is likely to be torn between the PC ecosystem, with Steam Deck and other machines, and the Nintendo side of things. It should also be remembered that Microsoft also wants to offer its own machine. And of course, if Sony offers its own machine, it will be designed to run games from its own catalogue.
