An Epyc 4124P at 6.7 GHz on an AM5 motherboard!

AMD has several ranges of processors, with Ryzen for the consumer sector and Ryzen Pro or Epyc for the professional sector. However, an Epyc CPU isn’t really designed to be overclocked… Unless you mount it on a consumer motherboard with a specific bios. This is what we tried with an Epyc 4124P, which was pushed to 6.7 GHz!

Epyc 4124P overclocking

In broad terms, Splave took an Epyc server processor with a 4-core 8-thread configuration and mounted it on a B650 motherboard. The motherboard is an ASRock B650M-HDV M.2 paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM. For overclocking, the CPU in question was pushed to 6739 MHz using extreme liquid nitrogen cooling.

In terms of performance, the configuration was run through the 7-Zip test, which produced an impressive 82,943 MIPS. This score puts Splave at the top of the categories: 4-core processor and Epyc 4124P. On a worldwide level (all categories taken together), however, this score comes in at 2680th place.

In any case, if even AMD’s Pro processors go through the overclocking process, there could be a lot to talk about in the near future. In the meantime, GG for the performance!
