AMD’s next-generation board is back in the news. Apparently, two GPUs have been spotted in LLVM patches. For the record, LLVM stands for “collection of reusable and modular compilers”… Devs will know what that means. In any case, from a hardware point of view, two RDNA4 GPUs have been spotted!

RDNA4: AMD GPUs appear under code GFX12!

GFX codes are used to identify GPUs in preparation, as well as their respective families (architecture, generation, etc.). Up to now, the first generation of RDNA boards carried the GFX101X code. Then, with RDNA2, we had the codes GFX103X, then GFX11XX and GFX115X with RDNA3 and 3.5. Now, it seems that with this new generation, the cards carry the code GFX12XX.

From what we can see, two GPUs have already been identified, since the LLVM patches display the codes GFX1200 and GFX1201. In principle, these would refer to Navi 44 and Navi 48 GPUs. In line with previous rumors, these are not high-end GPUs, according to Red Gaming Tech.

According to the videographer, we’re talking about chips with 32 and 20 WGP, or 64 and 40 Comput Units. However, the number of stream processors is still unknown. As for configurations, we’re talking about cards equipped with GDDR7 memory on a 192-bit and 128-bit memory bus. Navi48, for its part, could feature 48 MB of Infinity Cache, compared with 32 MB for Navi44… In the best-case scenario.

An alternative configuration has been mooted, with a smaller Infinity Cache: 32 MB and 24 MB. The memory bus would also be reduced to 128-bit and 96-bit, while PCIe interfaces would be Gen 5.0 x8 instead of Navi48 5.0 x16 and Navi44 5.0 x8.

Needless to say, these specifications are only rumors, and things could well change between now and then.
