Let’s head for Steam and its surveys on the hardware used by gamers. Last time, in July, we saw that GTX 1650 was the most popular card. In just two months, the situation has changed, with the RTX 3060 taking up the mantle.

RTX 3060, the most popular card on Steam in September!

Until now, the most popular graphics card used by gamers on the platform was the small GTX 1650, an entry-level card launched in 2019. Its low price clearly helped its adoption since, as a reminder, it was a model that was officially billed at $149.

In September, the card gave way to the 3060, which posted a 1.4% increase in utilization compared with August. This model is now found in 6.27% of machines used on the platform.

Among NVIDIA’s other cards, the RTX 2060 is also up: 0.75%, while the 1650 is down by 0.33%. As for RTX 40s, the 4060 is present in 0.54% of machines (0.31%), while the Ti is more prominent: 0.66% (0.28%). The 4070/Ti are also on the rise, with 0.23% and 0.05% for the Ti. Finally, while the RTX 4080 remains stable, this is not the case for the 4090, which is down with -0.05% adoption during September.

On the AMD side, as ever, the cards are still very much in short supply. Once again, the most widely used model is a generic name: AMD Radeon Graphics (2.05% with a -0.15% loss of use this month). Next come the RX 580 at 1.03% and the RX 570 at 0.76%. The new generation, represented by the RX 7900 XTX, is used in just 0.21% of machines. But overall, the trend on the AMD side is downward.

Otherwise, the rest of the configuration remains unchanged:

  • CPU: six-core Intel running from 2.3 GHz to 2.69 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Graphics card: GTX 1650
  • Storage: >1 TB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Screen resolution: 1920×1080
