The RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT are due for release tomorrow, but some media outlets (HD Technologia) are leaking test results. So how do they stack up against NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070?

RX 7800 XT: one step ahead of the 4070!

As a reminder, with this 7800 XT, AMD aims to rival the RTX 4070. To achieve this, the brand is deploying a full Navi 32-based GPU featuring 3840 stream processors, 240 TMUs and 96 ROPS. The memory section features 16 GB of 256-bit GDDR6, as opposed to the RTX 4070’s 12 GB in 192-bit mode.

Performance-wise, the card inevitably lags as soon as Ray Tracing is activated. In fact, the card’s performance is -11.6% lower than that of its GeForce rival. These results were obtained on Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Space, F1 23, Forza Horizon 4 and Resident Evil 4.

However, as soon as this ray-tracing technology is deactivated, AMD’s card performs much better. In rasterization, it outperforms its rival by 6.9%. At best, the card puts up to 23% on the competition on COD: Modern Warfare 2 and Cyberpunk 2077, without Ray Tracing. In rasterization, however, it struggles on Boundary, Dead Island 2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

The RX 7700 XT, at ease against the RTX 4060 Ti!

The RX 7700 XT is a less impressive card with a smaller GPU. It houses 3456 stream processors and 12 GB GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus. This card is directly compared to NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 Ti, we assume in its 8 GB version.

This time, the card holds up better in Ray Tracing , where it lags behind by a more moderate -5.4%. However, it’s in rasterization that the card performs best, where AMD’s lead is considerable: 15.9%. According to AMD’s results, the card lags behind Dead Island 2 by 3%.

Synthetic benchmarks:

As far as synthetic benchmarks are concerned (we look at the Graphics Score line), it’s a non-match for NVIDIA cards. The RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT dominate on all fronts… except Port Royal, which uses Ray Tracing, which puts the 7800 XT in a tricky situation. The card posted 10365 pts, compared with 11080 for the RTX 4070. As for the 7700 XT, no problem at all: the card literally dominates its competitor.
