Head for the TechpowerUp forum, where two users have posted tools for flashing your NVIDIA graphics card’s vBios. For some years now, modding graphics card bios has been at a standstill. The cause? The security mechanisms built into the company’s GPUs prevented any modification… Until now, that is.
It’s time to flash NVIDIA vBios!
Veii’s OMGVflash and Kefinator’s NVflashk utilities are designed to bypass NVIDIA’s security mechanisms. As a result, it will be possible to flash an RTX 2000 with a fully modified vBios. However, this complete bios modification is not supported by RTX 30 and RTX 40… At least not yet.
So, what’s the point of all this? Modding, customization and overclocking, of course! Roughly speaking, with an RTX 2000, you can modify everything on it. You can customize the power consumption limit, the voltage limit, the fan curve and even the thermal throttling limit… Ideal for making a noisy card quieter, while keeping an eye on temperatures, of course.
As for the RTX 30 and RTX 40, these in-depth modifications are not supported, or not yet. However, cross-flashing remains possible. Broadly speaking, this means, for example, flashing an RTX 4080 Ventus 3X with the bios of an RTX 4080 HOF. As a result, your little MSRP card can end up behaving like a card designed entirely for overclocking. That’s a handy way to improve in-game or benchmark performance!
But don’t lose sight of the fact that bios modding is a risky business. In fact, if you risk it, you’ll lose your warranty. Secondly, the lifespan of your hardware may be altered to a greater or lesser extent depending on the settings you enter or the type of vBios you use. At your own risk.
For the moment, it’s difficult to assess the impact of this contribution to the world of overclocking. On the other hand, we can expect to see new scores appearing on the net over the next few days. As for the software in question, you should know that it has been verified and, according to TechpowerUp, is safe. You’ll find posts here and here explaining how they work, etc., etc.
