New AMD boards for back-to-school?

Since November 2022, AMD has launched just one graphics card: the little RX 7600. At present, we’re waiting for new cards to complete the abysmal gap between the RX 7900 and this little 7600… But the good news is that these “intermediate” models are scheduled for September, for the start of the new school year.

If the rumours are to be believed, the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT could well see the light of day in September. However, these cards will be presented before then, as rumor has it that they will make an appearance at Gamescom. Gamescom is a video game trade show held in Cologne, Germany, from August 23 to 27. The final launch would therefore take place in September. Note that this is the ideal time for this type of launch.

In terms of specifications, rumors indicate that the 7800 XT will feature a Navi 32 XT chip. This would contain 60 compute units or 3840 stream processors. The memory would feature 16 GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus. Bandwidth would then be 624 GB/s, thanks to VRAM clocked at 19.5 Gbps.

As for the RX 7700 XT, this board would feature a Navi 32 XL containing between 48 and 54 compute units. The number of stream processors would vary between 3072 and 3456. The memory bus will be reduced, bringing VRAM to 12 GB. This will have an impact on bandwidth: 468 GB/s with memory running at 19.5 Gbps.

Finally, power consumption is estimated at 260W for the 7800 XT versus 245W for the 7700 XT. Expect dual 8-pin PCIe connectivity. Finally, on the interface side, we’ll find PCIe 4.0 x16.

All that’s left is to find out the final price, though AMD has plenty of room to maneuver between the $899 of the 7900 XT and the $269 of the 7600.
