The 12V-2×6 connector is a real pain. Indeed, it’s a temperamental connector that sometimes melts and generates a lot of stress. Attempts have been made to make it more reliable, but to no avail. However, we’re hopeful with the 14A Titanload EX cable from Segotep. Segotep is a Chinese manufacturer of power supplies and PC cases in particular. According to the company’s internal records, this cable promises to be particularly resistant!
14A TitanLoad EX: the cable that never melts!
With this cable, the Segotep brand offers us a reference with improved resistance to overheating. To achieve this, the company uses 16 AWG cables. On the plug side, the internal structure has been reworked to maximize the contact surface. The same goes for the tightened connectors, which make the plug more difficult to insert and remove, but what we want is for it not to melt. Finally, gold-plated connectors are used, while the strands are sheathed.
According to the brand’s results, these improvements are bearing fruit, as they seriously reduce the temperature rise of the cable and its connector. On a 669W load, the average temperature of the standard cable is 71.98°C, compared with 23.45°C for the Segotep model. The maximum temperature recorded drops from 97.46°C for the basic model to 27.53°C for this model, while the maximum hotspot temperature is drastically reduced from 123.46°C to 53.53°C!
However, this is the latest, improved version of Segotep’s cable. Indeed, while the brand originally planned to launch the 12A TitanLoad EX, the results obtained were not convincing, with a hotspot load of 669W stabilizing at 76.76°C. The brand has therefore revised its copy.
In short, these results suggest that this may be the version you need to avoid damage to graphics cards… Or not. In any case, this is the version that Segotep will supply with its power supplies. A good selling point for the brand’s blocks.
