The arrival of the RTX 4090 came with a new power connector, the famous 12VHPWR. Moreover, since the launch of the card, the latter has some problems. Indeed, because of dubious 16-pin to 8-pin adapters, we can end up with problems of overheating or melting of the connectors… Not great.
In order to avoid bending the adapter too much, which seems to be the main cause of the problems encountered, Cablemod offers 90° and 180° rigid adapters.
12VHPWR: the 90° and 180° adapter from Cablemod!
For the occasion, Cablemod has concocted 90° and 180° adapters. Contrary to the models (a little shitty, let’s say it), provided with the graphic cards, this one is rigid and we will plug directly its connector. The advantage is that you don’t need to bend your PCIe cable/adapter, limiting the risks of melting the connector.
Each adapter model is available in two types, A and B. The aim is to match as many cards as possible on the market. Depending on the manufacturer, the four small pins can be located towards the PCB or towards the fan tray. Finally, we note that the 180° model is intended to pass the cable over the backplate.
