AMD’s Zen 6 architecture is expected to be available across all of the company’s processor series. Of course, we’re eagerly awaiting the Ryzen models, which are aimed at the consumer market. But there’s no doubt that the architecture will also be available in Epyc (server CPUs ) as well as in mobile models. Furthermore, the Threadripper lineup is also expected to benefit from the Zen 6 architecture with models codenamed Mustang Peak. Several leaks, notably from AMD’s website, corroborate this hypothesis.
Threadripper on Zen 6: AMD is working on its next-generation HEDT CPUs!
Newsocket and PCIe 6.0 support?
Well, with Zen 6, as we know, the number of cores is expected to increase, as the CCDs would go from 8 to 12 cores. The same goes for the L3 cache, which would increase from 32 to 48 MB. While the final number of cores is unknown, based on the current generation of Threadripper, we can imagine a hypothetical 10960X featuring 144 cores spread across 12CCDs, all with a total of 576 MB of L3 cache. But these are just speculations.
The main new feature here, however, is the introduction of a new socket, the TR6. This information comes directly from AMD’s website. The same goes for PCIe 6.0 support. For a workstation-class processor, supporting this interface makes sense since it enables ultra-responsive storage while providing high bandwidth for GPUs. It remains to be seen whether they will include 128 lanes, as is the case with the current Threadripper processors and PCIe 5.0.
Another factor to consider is support for FRED (Flexible Return and Event Delivery) technology. This technology is useful for virtualization tasks, where it improves performance.
A launch in late 2026 or early 2027?
Finally, rumors suggest a potential launch of this generation sometime between now and the end of 2026, or even early 2027. Let’s just say that launching this series in early 2027 would allow AMD to take advantage of the visibility provided by CES to draw attention to it.
In any case, we’ll see what AMD has in store for us and when it becomes available. For now, these are just rumors!
