Last year, we heard about Inception, a security flaw that plagued AMD processors. However, while certain generations could see their performance drop drastically following the application of patches, this is not the case with Zen 5. In fact, according to Phoronix tests, AMD’s new architecture does not seem to be affected!
Zen 5: no noticeable drop in performance following Inception patch!
Broadly speaking, Inception is a security flaw that can steal your data when it is stored in RAM. To do this, the attack exploits branch predictors. But we told you all about it here.
Be that as it may, AMD’s latest architecture, present in the Ryzen 9000 processors, does not seem to be affected by the drop in performance linked to the application of the patch. According to Phoronix, there is no noticeable difference in performance with or without the patch.
Clearly, we’re a long way from the impact that the patch could have had on certain architectures, such as Zen 3 or Zen 4. We’re even talking about performance losses of over 50% on Zen 3, for example! The reason behind all this is that Ryzen 9000s use a different architecture, which means they are not susceptible to the drop in performance caused by the patch.
