Off to China for a potential future card from AMD. We’ve already talked about the card in question: the RX 9070 GRE. With this new model, the brand is preparing a reference that will replace the non-XT RX 9070 in the Middle Kingdom. If the rumours are to be believed, the RX 9070 will not be restocked and the GRE will take its place. On the other hand, we still don’t understand why AMD has launched two cards with prices so close to each other with these XT and non-XT versions.
RX 9070 GRE, specifications :
Broadly speaking, the card will benefit from a Navi 48 GPU, which will lose a quarter of its stream processors. In total, that’s 3072 processing units, compared with 4096 for an RX 9070 XT. As for memory, AMD has opted for a 192-bit memory bus for a total capacity of 12 GB. Of course, GDDR6 will still be used, and assuming the brand opts for 18 Gbps VRAM, bandwidth will be 432 GB/s. Finally, we could count on a PCIe 5.0 x16 interface.
In terms of frequency, we’re talking about a card that fits in between the RX 9070 XT and non-XT. The card is reported to run at 2790 MHz, compared with 2970 MHz for the XT and 2520 MHz for the non-XT. This gives the GRE (Great Radeon Edition) model a computing power of 17.1 TFLOP, compared with 18 TFLOP for the non-XT.
Unfortunately, it’s a safe bet that this card is only intended for the Chinese market. Even if AMD has belatedly decided to launch its 7900 GRE globally, the chances of seeing a 9070 GRE here are slim. However, it’s a card that we think is more relevant than the non-XT, given the way the range and the GPU are split up. It remains to be seen what the price will be. As for the launch, we can expect it to hit the market in the second quarter.
