The RX 9060 XT breaks the record for the highest GPU frequency

AMD collaborated with Splave to set a new world record for overclocking on one of their cards. The brand has now set a world record for GPU frequency with an RX 9060 XT that broke the 4.7 GHz barrier. This is simply unprecedented; even previous attempts did not go this far!

Unfortunately, the information provided by AMD is rather limited, but we do know that the card has broken all previous records. In the past, there have been attempts to break the 4 GHz barrier with an RTX 4090. Here, Splave’s performance with a Matrix model immediately comes to mind, reaching 4005 MHz at the time.

In any case, with this card, we are radically changing the range to focus on an everyday card. On this model, the original heat sink has been removed to make room for a liquid nitrogen bucket. From then on, the chip proves to be very playful and the overclocker reaches a crazy frequency of 4.569 GHz. It should be noted that the previous world record for GPU frequency was 4,020 MHz for a dedicated graphics card, compared to 4,025 MHz for an iGPU.

We don’t know what kind of card it is, but it doesn’t look like a retail model.

In fact, this frequency exceeds Splave’s expectations, who said that 4.4 to 4.5 GHz would already be “a wonderful performance.” , even though he would have liked to have reached 5 GHz.

This shows that you don’t necessarily need to go for RTX 5090s to do interesting things. Even with an entry-level card, you can have fun, even with air cooling. Liquid nitrogen requires other skills in addition to a substantial budget for equipment, with the use of dewars and a bucket for cooling.
