The 12VHPWR from CableMod also melts…

At this point, we can say it, this new 12VHPWR connector is a real pain! First of all, you have to use adapters with a limited life span or even change your power supply if you want a clean installation. Then, you have to connect it correctly, otherwise it will melt and damage your equipment irreparably…

In short, a novelty we could have done without, especially since even the CableMod custom connector does not escape the problem. And we’re not talking about a Chinese company making hair-thin cables over the leg and in spades!

Even CableMod’s 12VHPWR can melt!

CableMod 12VHPWRAgain, via Reddit, we learn that a user has had his custom cable melt. For the record, the user in question is using an RTX 4090 from Gigabyte. A premium model billed around $2000. Apparently, when assembling his PC, the connector was not connected correctly. Because yes, when installing it, the connector must be fully inserted into the socket!

In any case, Humble-Brilliant saw both ends of the connector melt. Fortunately, no damage was done to the card. However, and this is where it gets interesting since CableMod contacted him via Reddit after this incident stating:

” Very sorry about that – please reach out to our support and we will make it right with you! Our products come with service and we help every customer out.”

” The card is not damaged (we spoke to him) but in case our cables would damage a card, then we would replace the GPU – we have done that in the past in very rare cases where our cables damaged something.”

In other words, in case of a problem, obviously, you don’t have to worry about your connector. Especially since if the equipment is affected, the company seems to take care of the replacement costs. This is something they have done in the past in very rare cases.
