Strange connector placements on Corsair Shift PSU

It is once again the Twitter account of “momomo_us” that revealed the pictures of what should be a Corsair Shift RM1200x power supply. This is a new range that should be offered by Corsair in the coming weeks and should include a model of 850, 1000 and of course 1200 watts. This series will also benefit from ATX 3.0 certification. So far, nothing special except for the location of the connectors which have been moved to the side of the power supply. This is a small revolution in power supply design.

This is a deliberate choice on the part of Corsair on this Shift series which aims to facilitate the connection to the various components of your PC. Remember that currently, the connectors are oriented towards the inside of the case which seems to be a very good idea.

So why such a change? Several comments on the web suggest that there will be new cases that correlate with this new layout, while others see problems with folding the cables into a traditional case.

For our part, we can only wait for official announcements from Corsair to know more about this new power supply series. As a reminder, Corsair didn’t talk about this Shift series at all during the CES 2023 in January. Wait and see.
