SkatterBencher pushes the 7800X3D to 5.4 GHz!

Even if the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (tested by us here) is not officially overclockable, the practice is possible via devious means. But SkatterBencher managed to push the CPU to 5.4 GHz where it officially runs at 5.00 GHz as standard.

Obviously, overclocking this processor is not an easy task. To achieve this, SkatterBencher has exploited several methods. Nevertheless, the most effective seems to be the one that combines Precision Boost Overdrive 2 with ECLK adjustments. By combining these two methods, the frequencies rise and the CPU almost reaches 5.4 GHz in boost on one core. On all eight cores, the processor then stabilizes at 4.85 GHz.

This represents a gain of 7.7% in frequency and 10% more in single core. However, the maneuver seems complicated to implement, especially for beginners. Moreover, overclocking this CPU does not seem to offer much interest since it allows us to achieve application performance equivalent to that of a Ryzen 7 7700X according to Guru3D. Let’s say that this is more of a feat than anything else.

Finally, SkatterBencher seems to want to go further to see what can be done with this model. Eventually, this will allow to see how much OC margin is available on this model for the most experienced clockers . Anyway, we can already see a CPU-Z validation showing the processor running at 5.6 GHz. To be continued.
