Just a few months ago, we were hearing regular rumors of a series of refresh cards for NVIDIA. This series was to take the form of the RTX 50 Super, whose main feature would be an increase in memory capacity thanks to the use of 3 GB chips. We now learn, via the Board Channels forum, that NVIDIA, for various reasons that we’ll go into in greater detail, has postponed the launch to an as yet unknown date.
RTX 50 Super, still not for tomorrow!
Right now, the IT sector is in a mess, with the majority of demand and supply turning towards the pro sectors, particularly products linked to the needs of artificial intelligence. As we can see with DDR5 costs, manufacturers prefer to allocate more lines to HBM production, even if it means neglecting the consumer sector. The same applies to NVIDIA, whose production lines are limited (at its foundry partners). The chameleon therefore prefers to concentrate on AI cards rather than GeForce for gamers.
Then there’s the question of profits, and here gaming cards don’t stand up to comparison with server/IA cards, which are far more profitable. Just look at the company’s financial results: last November, 80% of the company’s sales were generated by the data center branch. In contrast, the gaming sector accounts for just 15.76%!
With this in mind, we can of course point to the limited quantities of memory chips in circulation. And yet, as we said, this RTX 50 Super series will be based on denser chips. Mechanically, by relying on a rare and expensive raw material, the price of the cards would also be high…
Finally, NVIDIA is in no hurry to release its cards, simply because the competition doesn’t seem ready to release anything new in 2026. It would appear that AMD will continue to maintain its RX 9000s, spearheaded by the RX 9070 XT, until the next generation of cards. In the meantime, the RTX 50s as they stand represent solid competition… The situation being that the more time passes, the less likely it is that this series will arrive. Indeed, we’re starting to hear more and more about Rubin, and there will come a time when it will be more interesting for the chameleon to launch Rubin than RTX 50s.
