As you know, there is currently a shortage of GDDR6X memory chips. So as not to penalise its top-of-the-range segment, NVIDIA is making its mid-range cards available with GDDR6 chips, as in the case of the RTX 4070 GDDR6. Several cards of this type have already been announced, but we didn’t yet know their retail prices. Now we do!
RTX 4070 GDDR6: pricing similar to GDDR6X models!
ASUS is obviously one of the manufacturers offering this type of card. As you can see from the screenshot above, the card was available from Newegg at a price of $569.99. However, stocks were obviously limited, as this model is already out of stock.
In short, VideoCardz will have noticed that this price is identical to that of its GDDR6X counterpart. So, as well as offering slower memory, which has a negative impact on memory bandwidth (5% loss), the cards are sold at the same price. What’s more, nothing has been done to compensate for this difference, with no higher GPU frequency or anything else.
In fact, there’s nothing to stop you from manually overclocking your card’s memory to compensate. Of course, wherever possible, you should opt for a card equipped with GDDR6X, which is widely available. The other version won’t give you anything extra apart from economies of scale for NVIDIA.
