Lexar is offering us a new series of SSDs with models from its new Play 2280 series. These models are designed for console gamers, with a reference for the PS5 in particular.
Play 2280: SSDs for the PS5 from Lexar!
On the programme, we find SSDs in M.2 2280 format, the standard adopted by Sony for its console. We’re talking here about models with a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. In terms of storage capacity, we’re talking about 2TB, 4TB and 8TB models. However, only the 4TB version is currently being launched, so we’ll have to wait until the fourth quarter to see them arrive… Logically.
Of course, Lexar applies a heat dissipator to its storage units, so they don’t get hot. What’s more, its dimensions have been optimised to ensure that the SSD fits snugly into the console’s slot.
In terms of performance, the company has announced maximum read speeds of 7.4 GB/s, compared with 6.5 GB/s for write speeds. These are the sequential speeds announced. Otherwise, we can expect good endurance with 3200 TBW for the 4TB model, 6400 TBW for 8TB and, logically, 1600 TBW for 2TB.
For prices, expect to pay €379.99 for the 4TB model and €199.99 for the 2TB model on Amazon France.
