MSI launches its MPG X870E Carbon Max WiFi!

We are reaching a stage where motherboard manufacturers are starting to offer updates for their AMD motherboards. We’ve seen this with ASUS and Gigabyte, and now it’s MSI’s turn with its MPG X870E Carbon WiFi. This new model features a few minor innovations, designed primarily for long-term support!

MPG X870E Carbon Max WiFi: a few new features!

MSI MPG X870E Carbon Max WiFiThis card is an ATX model designed for AMD’s Ryzen processors. It naturally features an AM5 socketand a red X870E chipset. As we can see, the design is largely inherited from the first Carbon X870E. There are only a few minor aesthetic changes, which are fairly subtle overall.

But the main addition is the use of a 64 MB BIOS chip. This is particularly interesting for platforms with a long lifespan, which is the case with AMD. Over the years, processor generations have come and gone, and BIOS have become increasingly heavy in order to support past and future generations. The other addition is the integration of a clock generator.

For the rest, we are dealing with a solidly built card with a large power supply section. There are 18+2+1 power phases, all cooled by imposing heat sinks with heat pipes.

The connectivity features three PCIe x16 slots, the first two of which are 5.0 standard, but be careful, they share their lines with two M.2 slots also wired in PCIe 5.0, all of which use lines from the CPU. Be careful not to overload everything. The storage section also features two other M.2 slots in PCIe 4.0 x4, using the chipset lines, while four SATA slots complete the picture. Let’s not forget the memory section, which uses four DDR5 slots that can handle speeds of 8400 MT/s.

Finally, the I/O shield section is particularly comprehensive and features a good number of 10 Gbps USB ports, both USB-A and USB-C. There is also a 40 Gbps USB port and an HDMI output. Several buttons are provided for BIOS flash,CMOS clear, and smart button functions. There is a 5 GbE network section (Realtek RTL8126), another 2.5 GbE section (Realtek RTL8125), WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, as well as Realtek ALC4080 audio.

Prices are still unknown, but considering that the first generation of X870E Carbon cards were priced around €500, we have a good indication of the price of this new generation of cards.
