Just when we thought that the Windows 11 “console” version would remain an exclusive benefit of the Rog Xbox Ally that arrived last month, we learn that the MSI Claw also benefits from the full-screen Xbox interface, through a recent update that optimizes the user experience. For those who haven’t been following the story, this new interface provides a much more suitable interface for a console, while improving performance compared with the classic Windows 11 version.
Rog Xbox Ally loses its main advantage to the MSI Claw?
To take advantage of it, you need to be part of the Windows Insider program. You’ll need to install Windows 11 version 26220.7051 (KB5067115), then go to the Games section of Windows 11 Settings and activate the “Full Screen Experience” option. It’s important to note that Microsoft seems to be selecting who can and cannot deploy this update. For the moment, only owners of an MSI Claw can have this right. Others ( Lenovo, Acer etc.) will have to rely on the goodwill of the software giant.
Initial feedback from this “new” Windows confirms a big improvement in ergonomics and a slight improvement in performance. In fact, several improvements enable Windows 11 to deactivate certain unnecessary services in games that consume memory. Performance has thus improved, even if Microsoft is still working on the subject and this first step is not transcendental. However, it is still possible to switch back to Windows desktop mode at any time to access settings, the Internet browser or all the classic PC functions.
Nevertheless, this deployment on the excellent (and under-rated) MSI Claw, which we tested here, is a step we’ll be keeping an eye on. In fact, MSI’s console and its Intel chip regularly receive updates that put it on a par with AMD solutions.
