For those who don’t remember, MSI used to offer special overclocking motherboards with a dedicated series: the MPower and XPower. Last year, the brand tried to resurrect the series with a Z790 version, a model we tested here. This time, we learn that the brand could well be taking on AMD with a B850M MPower, although it remains to be seen what it will offer.
B850M MPower: a new OC card for MSI!
If buying an MPower board used to mean buying a top-of-the-range motherboard, that’s no longer quite the case. From what we were able to judge with the Z790 version, the series refers to entry-level boards with OC-related functions… Particularly the memory part.
In short, with this B850 model, MSI is offering something equivalent to its Z790 model. From what we can see from the first photos, the card is equipped with two DDR5 memory slots in micro-ATX format. As a reminder, this dual DIMM configuration offers a better RAM frequency rise.
Otherwise, from what we can see, the card will benefit from at least one PCIe 5.0 x16 and at least two M.2s, including one positioned on the side of the RAM. Finally, at least two SATAs appear to be present.
We don’t know how many power supply stages will be fitted to this reference, and the same goes for the motherboard’s I/O connections. In terms of design, MSI seems to be going back to basics, with a look based on shades of black and yellow. Of course, MPower markings are present here and there on the various heatsinks.
It remains to be seen how this card will be available: globally or just for the Asian market.
