Little by little, China is making progress in the semi-conductor sector. Indeed, Loongson, a company we have already mentioned, has announced that it is working on a new graphics card. The model in question, the Loongson 9A2000, should offer performance to rival the RTX 2080!
Loongson 9A2000: real Chinese competition at last?
For the moment, we don’t know much about the card in question. However, the brand is announcing that this new model will be the equivalent of the RTX 2080 in terms of performance. Although this card was launched in September 2018, according to Wccftech, it remains a very capable card that can still play 1080p games in good conditions. Now, if this new Chinese GPU manages to rival this model, it would represent a clear step forward for China in this field.
Currently, Moore Threads offers GPUs that are 100% made in China. However, when the MTT S80 was announced, it was a cold shower: nothing worked, performance was disastrous and the card consumed a lot of power and heated up a lot given what it had to offer. Admittedly, the situation has improved considerably since then, but it’s still not enough to make NVIDIA shiver.
For the time being, Loongson is offering the 9A1000 GPU, whose performance is said to be on a par with AMD’s RX 550. If this new model lives up to its promises, we could be looking at an 8- to 10-fold increase in performance.
In the future, the company is expected to offer a new model with the 9A3000, a version based on the 9A2000 but offering improvements to the engraving process and architecture. We therefore expect an increase in performance and a reduction in heat and power consumption. As for the CPU, we have learned that the 3B6600 will be an 8-core processor capable of competing with twelfth-generation Core i processors.
Little by little, China seems to be making progress in the semi-conductor sector. But we should also keep in mind that there is often a world of difference between Chinese promises and reality. Probably a communist trick 😉
