During a short live benchmark session, MSI had some fun comparing the performance achieved by the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and 8GB. So, what impact does doubling the amount of memory have on performance?

4060 Ti 16 GB: a tad slower?

RTX 4060 Ti 16 Go perfs

In a live report, MSI compared performance between the two versions of the RTX 4060 Ti. In the end, there was very little difference in performance between the two versions. Worse still, the 16 GB version is even a hair slower than its 8 GB counterpart!

At least, that’s what the MSI team measured. Several games were compared, including Cyberpunk 2077, F1 2023, Rainbow 6: Siege, CS:GO, Fortnite and Hogwarts Legacy.

According to the brand’s results, the 8 GB version of the card performs 0.5% better than the 16 GB version. Framerate is also better on Cyberpunk, F1 2023, R6: Siege and Fortnite. On CS:GO, memory capacity seems to do us some good: 445 FPS vs. 419 FPS. Finally, on Hogwarts Legacy, we have roughly the same performances.

What we don’t know, however, is how stable the framerate is. To find out, it would have been nice to know the frametime or, failing that, the FPS 1% Low. Because, as we’ve seen here, FPS aren’t boosted every time, but it does improve frame/sec stability, and the fluidity felt is also better!
