In the world of laptop processors, AMD is reportedly working on a new model equipped with 3D V-Cache. This model is none other than the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D, a processor with fewer cores than the 9955HX3D. In fact, this model is said to feature a well-known 8-core/16-thread configuration in addition to a 3D V-Cache array.
Ryzen 7 9800HX3D: a familiar configuration set to debut in a laptop!
An 8-core,16-thread CPU with 3D V-Cache?
Currently, the mobile processor lineup includes the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which features a total of 16 cores and 32 threads, all with 3D V-Cache. However, this configuration remains expensive, and not all games take full advantage of such a large number of cores. In fact, games primarily benefit from a large memory cache and low memory latency. This hypothetical Ryzen 7 9800HX3D would therefore be better suited for use in a gaming laptop.
In the meantime, the configuration may change, as this is a rumor spread by the Golden Pig Upgrade Pack account, which is fairly well-known. The account indicates that the CPU would have 8 cores and 16 threads. The boost clock would reach 5.1 GHz, while the graphics component could be based on the RADEON 610M, an iGPU barely capable of handling a display.
However, these specs remain largely incomplete, as we still don’t know the total amount of cache. The same goes for the base frequencies and the configurable TDP.
Available by the end of the year?
As for availability, rumors suggest that AMD could launch its CPU by the end of the year. The first laptops equipped with it could therefore arrive around that time. However, wider availability might not occur until the first few months of 2027. Manufacturers need time to fine-tune their BIOS, test compatibility, and prepare their supply chains. On the other hand, AMD is expected to offer a wide range of configurations, so it wouldn’t be impossible to find this CPU paired with high-end dedicated GPUs like the mobile RTX 5070 Ti, as is the case with the 9955HX3D, for example.
