A brief analysis of the graphics card market by Jon Peddie Research, which assesses market trends by examining card shipments by add-in-boards, the partners of AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. The overall conclusion is that by the second quarter of 2024, the market will be on the up again!
Graphics card shipments on the up again!
Broadly speaking, the graphics card market is back on the rise. This was noted by JPR in its latest compilation of figures. In the second quarter of 2024, the total number of cards shipped was 9.4 million, compared with 8.7 million in the first quarter of 2024. This represents a quarterly increase of 9.4%, well above the ten-year trend. In fact, over the last ten years, shipments have fallen by around 7.1%. What’s worse is the comparison between Q2 2024 and Q2 2023, which shows an annual increase in shipments of 48%!
In detail now, on the Intel side, it’s a flat line, with the blues with their Arc A cards no longer representing any market share and shipping very little overall. This can be explained by the fact that the company has not released anything significant since October 2023 with the Arc A580. Clearly, the Blue side lacks the dynamism to attract new customers.
On NVIDIA’s side, board shipments were up 9.7% on Q1 2024, while they jumped 61.9% on Q2 2023. At the same time, the company is taking advantage of the situation to increase its market share, which now stands at 88%!
AMD also saw its number of shipments rise again in the second quarter of 2024, to 9%. However, compared with the same period in 2023, the figures are less impressive: just 3%.
