We continue this string of bad news with a price hike for Gigabyte graphics cards. In Japan, some distributors are reporting sharp price increases for the brand’s graphics cards, with hikes already reaching 20 to 40 percent. It’s worth noting that this isn’t limited to any specific type of GPU, as the brand produces both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards.
Gigabyte: Distributors Impose Sharp Price Increases on Graphics Cards!
Up to +40% in Japan!
While South Korea is experiencing a substantial increase in graphics card prices, Japan is not spared—particularly when it comes to Gigabyte cards. In fact, the distributor CFD Sales has issued a notice of price revisions ranging from 120% to 140% of current rates… This translates to price increases of 20 to 40% for the brand’s cards, following Gigabyte’s price adjustment.
Of course, this applies to the prices set by this particular distributor. It remains to be seen whether this will be the case for other distributors in Japan or not. In fact, prices depend mainly on volume and the distributor’s ability to negotiate directly with the brand.
Canceled Orders?
The worst part of all this is that some orders placed through the CFD-BIZ platform could be canceled. On a case-by-case basis, the distributor may contact its customers to discuss canceling an order. In this regard, we’re wondering about the cancellation criteria the distributor is using. It remains to be seen whether large or small orders will be affected, or if it depends on existing card inventory.
What are the reasons?
Of course, we’re tempted to point the finger primarily at the memory shortage. Between the limited quantities available and the particularly high prices, it’s easy to find a perfect scapegoat. Furthermore, while the cost of motherboardPCBs is expected to rise soon, the cost of graphics cards is likely to follow the same trend. Let’s not forget: both use similar materials as well as specific components related to the power supply stages, the prices of which are on the rise. Admittedly, smaller cards are less affected, but when added up, these increases end up weighing heavily on the bill.
