Since the RTX 30s, graphics cards have begun to gain in weight, while at the same time taking up a lot of space. This phenomenon has become particularly pronounced with the RTX 40s, where it’s common to come across cards with three or more slots and a length of over 30 cm. With its Gaming Slim series, MSI has slimmed down its boards to make them even more compact!

Gaming Slim: at last RTX 40s with a reasonable footprint!

While the length of the cards may still pose a problem – we’re talking 307 mm in length – the thickness becomes much less of an issue. Take the case of the RTX 4090 Gaming X, 77 mm thick, which is now 51 mm. The same goes for the RTX 4080, which drops to 46 mm, and for all the other cards in the series.

This slim series will include RTX 4090, 4080, 4070 Ti, 4070 and 4060 Ti. In other words, almost all of the brand’s RTX 40s will be included. For the time being, the Dragon Brand is concentrating solely on NVIDIA’s offer. It remains to be seen whether AMD cards will be affected by this phenomenon.

In the meantime, despite a slimmer design, facilitating their mounting in ITX configurations, MSI maintains factory overclocking. Here are the frequencies:

  • 4090: 2610 MHz (MSI Center) – 2595 MHz(Boost)
  • 4080: 2610 MHz (MSI Center) – 2595 MHz (Boost)
  • 4080 White: 2610 MHz (MSI Center) – 2595 MHz(Boost)
  • 4070: 2745 MHz (MSI Center) – 2730 MHz(Boost)
  • 4070 White: 2745 MHz (MSI Center) – 2730 MHz(Boost)
  • 4070: 2625 MHz (MSI Center) – 2610 MHz(Boost)
  • 4070 White: 2745 MHz (MSI Center) – 2730 MHz(Boost)
  • 4060 Ti 16/8 GB: 2685 MHz (MSI Center) – 2670 MHz(Boost)
  • 4060 Ti 16/8 GB White: 2685 MHz (MSI Center) – 2670 MHz(Boost)

Finally, despite the reduced footprint, the brand uses its TriFrozr 3.0 heatsink. A wide, nickel-plated copper base ensures contact with the heating elements. Up to eight copper heat pipes extend from this base. Finally, cooling is provided by a trio of Torx 5.0 fans with blades grouped three by three. The aim is to concentrate airflow on the aluminum fin block.
