As you know, the RTX 50 range of graphics cards will also be available in mobile format for laptops. However, some GPUs will be castrated compared with their desktop equivalents. Don’t expect the same characteristics from an RTX 5090 Mobile as from an RTX 5090 – the two chips have nothing in common. What’s more, the 5090M is being tested on Geekbench OpenCL, and it turns out that the chip is installed in a Razer Blade 16 laptop!
RTX 5090 Mobile: the card tested in a Razer Blade 16 laptop!
As we said, an RTX 5090 has a GB202 GPU equipped with 170 SM and 21,760 cuda cores. In terms of memory, 32 GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus are available. This contributes to a colossal memory bandwidth of 1.79 TB/s!
The laptop version of the chip uses a completely different GPU, a GB203 whose configuration is closer to an RTX 5080 desktop than anything else. This mobile chip features 82 SM (84 for the RTX 5080) or 10,496 cuda cores. In terms of RAM, it has 24 GB of GDDR7, and uses a 256-bit bus, with a bandwidth of 960 GB/s.
In short, the Razer Blade 16 passed the Geekbench OpenCL test and came away with a score of 91,063 pts. By way of comparison, an RTX 4090 mobile achieved a score of 179,000 as we learnt from our colleagues. The reason for this low score is linked to the low frequency of the card, which was operating at 1515 MHz at the time of the test. This inevitably raises questions, and it is likely that the benchmark was run with a PC in energy-saving mode, which would correspond to the chip’s frequency in 80W mode. In contrast, the same GPU, but in 150W mode, runs at much higher speeds, exceeding 2000 MHz.
