Fenghua No. 1: a Chinese-style server GPU!

For now, competitors to AMD and NVIDIA are clearly not numerous. However, things are about to change since the company Xindong announces having successfully tested its first GPU. The GPU in question is called Fenghua No.1 and is intended for server use. Nevertheless, the company does not reveal too much either.

Fenghua No.1: a first Chinese GPU!

Fenghua No .1From what we know, the chip was designed by Innosilicon (a contract chip designer). Nevertheless, the development was done in-house and it gives the result we have now. So Xindong announces that its card has been tested successfully.

However, we don’t know much about this card at the hardware level. We only know that it has a PCIe 4.0 interface and GDDR6X memory currently used by NVIDIA. However, once again, we are swimming in the unknown since we do not know the frequency of the latter, ditto for the number of chips used. Nevertheless, we suspect that the chips come from Innosilicon factories.

We will also find some video outputs like HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort or eDisplayPort 1.4. Moreover, the brand does not hesitate to highlight the support of a wide range of APIs. Among them, we have OpenCL, OpenGL, OpenGLES, Vulkan and DirectX (without specifying the versions). As for the supported OS, we have Linux, Android and even Windows.

In short, we don’t dwell too much on the subject since we know almost nothing about this card. The same goes for performance, however, the brand intends its product to be used as a server rendering GPU. It remains to be seen what this will do in terms of performance, since to compete with AMD or NVIDIA, you have to hold on. From our point of view, this story smells a bit like a damp squib. To be continued.
