Donald Trump’s policies are beginning to have an effect. For example, Korean giant Samsung is planning to increase the price of its DDR5 memory following a sudden rise in demand. The increase is expected to be in the region of 3 to 5%. If these price hikes are being felt in the US, they will also be felt in Europe!
Faced with an influx of orders, Samsung is raising its prices!
Samsung is planning to increase the selling price of its DDR5 memory in response to the surge in orders. It would appear that brands are anticipating the application of the additional customs duties announced by Trump in order to stock up. Given that everyone is ordering at the same time, Samsung is inevitably raising its prices after a long period of stability.
In addition, our source says that memory prices come and go, like a dog’s tail (for those who have the ref). While prices seem to be on the rise, it’s worth remembering that in 2018 and 2019, memory prices were down by almost 30%. So to be in a period where prices are rising by 12% is hardly surprising. The same goes for NAND, which is currently up by 9.6%.
All that remains to be seen is what will trigger a further fall in prices. Perhaps, once orders have been filled, tariffs will slow the market before manufacturers pass on their losses in sales prices.
