Could we see Ryzen 3s and Athlons in AM5?

While AMD is showing itself to be a serious competitor to Intel in the mid-range “plus” and high-end sectors, it’s not quite there yet in the entry-level segment. The problem with AMD’s Ryzen 7000 is that the price is still too high. There’s nothing under €150, or close to it… And when you see that the Core i5 12400F, admittedly a little old, was recently under €100, it hurts the competition. To solve this problem, the company may well release Ryzen 3s and Athlons with AM5 socket!

Ryzen 3 and Athlon, entry-level AM5 CPUs?

AMD AthlonAMD’s aim here would be to offer affordable processors under the €150 mark. To achieve this, the company would not beat about the bush, and might well rebadge Ryzen 7000s so that they are sold at more accessible prices. Of course, the new features of the new generation of Ryzen 9000 CPUs would be omitted. These would be processors using Zen 4 architecture engraved in 7 nm.

Let’s face it, building a configuration on an AM5 platform isn’t cheap. Between the price of the CPU (~€200 for 7500F excluding special offers) and the cost of the motherboard, you’re already looking at €300 without RAM or graphics card. However, based on Intel components, you can get something decent for €200 with an i5 12400F and an entry-level motherboard, €100 less all the same!
