Copper Memory Plate or how to reduce the temperature of your VRAM!

The company CoolMyGPU proposes a small mod easy to install in order to cool more efficiently the VRAM of the RTX 3000. Via its Copper Memory Plate, the brand proposes to drastically reduce the temperature of the GDDR6X of your graphic card. A simple mod to set up tested by DandyWorks!

Copper Memory Plate: temperatures up to 20% lower!

CoolMyGPU Copper Memory PlateThe principle of these Copper Plate is simple: reduce the temperature of the memory of your graphics card. To do this, you will have to remove the heatsink of your card to place the small copper plate. This last one does not require any tool since it is simply maintained thanks to the GPU of the card. Of course, to facilitate the contact between the memory and the copper plate, you will have to apply some thermal paste.

But in reality, what does it give? DandyWorks has tested this solution on its RTX 3080 Ventus 3X from MSI. On mining, the most stressful area for the memory of a graphics card, the benefits are quickly felt. Without the mod, the GDDR6X of the card reached 94°C, with the mod, it only runs at 75°C. Same observation in game, on Cyberpunk 2077: 88°C before, 70°C after. Finally, in benchmark on OctaneBench, Dandy was reading 92°C, then 76°C with the mod.

Obviously, the copper plate is also beneficial to the GPU of the card. In mining and gaming, the GPU also showed lower temperatures without this being the case in bench.

In short, there were significant gains in the memory temperature of the graphics card. Of course, the VRAM of the card was well below the maximum temperature of 110°C supported by the GDDR6X. However, as the videographer says, just because the memory can get up to 110°C doesn’t mean it should.
