It’s going to be AMD’s day as this morning at 8am UK time, AMD made a whole series of announcements at Computex 2022 which we’ll be coming back to throughout the day. At the same time, Asus announced the arrival of its high-end motherboard: the ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme. This new board features a new AM5 socket and is built around the X670E chipset (the extreme version of the X670). It will also benefit from 5.0 connectivity as well as DDR5 memory support.

Everything is based on the number 5:

Indeed, whether it’s memory, SSDs and next-generation graphics cards, they all have one thing in common: the number five. The ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme supports DDR5 memory and components that leverage PCI Express 5.0 (PCIe) connectivity. The card has two PCIe 5.0 x16 connectors for graphics cards and benefits from 5 slots for M.2 SSDs (four are wired in PCIe 5.0x). On the top, there is the AniMe Matrix LED display that can display custom animations like on the ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme.

A massive cooling system:

The ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme, in EATX format, has a power stage consisting of 20 + 2 phases with 110A mosfets. There is an impressive cooling system that covers the power supply stages. If you want to opt for a liquid cooling, a multitude of connectors are available. We find, as on the previous generations, a vertical slot for SSD M.2. This one is located to the right of the memory slots and seems to have an integrated cooling solution. Finally, you should know that as on the Z690 Extreme version, this ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme has an OLED screen that will display the boot sequence and the Q-Release button. When a card is plugged into the first PCIe slot, pressing this button opens the retention system and releases your graphics card. In short, we are already excited and eager to see this new ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme motherboard arrive in the lab!
