For some time now, mainstream gaming keyboard manufacturers have been working on the quality of their keyboards. Clearly, we’ve noticed it in our tests: keyboards are no longer just ‘prettier’; brands are working on acoustics and typing feel. We noticed this particularly with our tests of the MK770 (Cooler Master) and K65 Plus Wireless (Corsair). Razer is riding this wave and has announced its BlackWidow V4 Pro.
BlackWidow V4 Pro: an insulated and lubricated keyboard!
With this new model, Razer has joined the ranks of keyboard manufacturers who take great care with their products. This new model benefits from lubricated stabiliser bars for example. This greatly limits noise pollution while improving the gliding sensation. Otherwise, in the shell, we find several layers of seals and sound insulation to break up any resonance effect when typing.
As for the switches, by default Razer installs its in-house orange switches. These offer a tactile but silent keystroke. In this case, you’ll need to apply 50g of force to activate them, with the accent point located at 2 mm and a stroke of 3.5 mm. And if you don’t like that tactile sensation, you can change switches: the keyboard is hotswappable and compatible with both 3-pin and 5-pin models.
The keycaps are made of PBT, a more resistant plastic than ABS. Otherwise, this model benefits from an OLED screen for managing settings on the fly. You can use it to keep an eye on system info or display custom elements.
Last but not least, this keyboard is wireless, offering 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth or USB connections. It can be charged for up to 2,100 hours using the Power Saving Mode. This will disable the on-board OLED screen, RGB and communication with Synapse.
In the end, all that’s left to talk about is the bill, which comes to a whopping €349.99.
