This is no joke, Asus has just launched the Adolbook 14 Air, the world’s very first notebook to incorporate a fragrance. Forget computing power, screen specs or battery life – what really counts is smelling good while using your laptop…But maybe there’s a market (especially when you think about some of the people in our community )?
Originally, Asus had decided to roll out this Adol range of notebooks in China, with the aim of offering thin, light and above all affordable PCs. This version seems to have strayed a little from the original project… But Asus is pushing it hard as a “fashionable” PC dedicated to a public highly sensitive to this aspect. Perhaps we can think of a female audience, but we’re not sure if we’re allowed to say that these days…

The future: the portable PC that smells good
From a technical point of view, nothing spectacular: this notebook features a 14-inch screen with 1080p resolution, weighs 1.3 kg and is 16.5 mm thick. It’s equipped with an AMD Hawk Point APU and 32GB of ram. In reality, it’s honest, but we’re a long way from a racing beast. However, a particular effort has been made in terms of aesthetics, with Asus announcing that this is the “first metal notebook with color gradient”. The highlight of the show, of course, is the story that still seems implausible to us: its integrated fragrance diffusion system, designed to offer a “unique olfactory experience”. The system is integrated into the upper part of the chassis (back of the screen). It’s actually a housing for a perfume-infused leaf. This can be easily changed, and the laptop comes with three “fragrances”…

All sold in the form of a boxed set as part of a collaboration with Anna Sui. It includes a 50ml bottle of Anna Sui’s Wishing Elf fragrance (which we don’t know, so we’re definitely not the target…)

It used to be said that “nothing stops progress”, but it seems that today it’s more like “nothing stops marketing” (except perhaps commercial disaster… What if it actually worked? ).
