Sometimes, certain brands update their product packaging. The goal is often related to economies of scale, while in other cases, the objective is to roll out a new visual identity that’s more consistent with new products. In this case, it seems we’re dealing with the latter, since Arctic is changing the packaging for its MX thermal paste!
MX-4: Arctic is changing the packaging!
A new syringe:
With this packaging change, Arctic is updating not only the small cardboard box for its thermal paste but also the syringe that contains the MX-4. The syringe is now modeled after the one used for the MX-7 and features a small cap that’s easier to reseal. In fact, on the old packaging, the cap had to be screwed onto the syringe, which became increasingly difficult with repeated use as the thermal paste built up in the screw threads. Now, it simply clips onto the tip of the syringe.
In addition, the brand is updating its authenticity verification system with a code printed directly on the syringe. Previously, there was a scratch-off strip to reveal the serial number, which then had to be entered on the brand’s website.
But the formula remains the same:
Even though the packaging is changing, Arctic says it has kept the original formula for its thermal paste. So the paste itself remains the same. As such, this is a non-conductive thermal paste that can be applied to a CPU or GPU, for example. However, this remains the brand’s entry-level thermal paste; if you’re looking for maximum performance, you might be better off opting for a higher-performance model like the MX-7, which has proven particularly effective in tests.
Finally, another advantage is that this product is available in five different package sizes, with syringes containing 2g, 4g, 8g, 20g, and 45g. These large syringes are ideal for PC builders, for example, who apply thermal paste with a trowel because they build so many PCs! Note that this new packaging will be rolled out gradually in stores.
