The Managing Director of ASUS’ Chinese branch, Tony Yu, is also into extreme overclocking. The launch of a new series of graphics cards is an opportunity for him to show off his skills in this area, and what better way than to push an RTX 5090D to 3390 MHz?
The RTX 5090D pushed to ~3,400 MHz!
Broadly speaking, the RTX 5090D is a card designed for the Chinese market, since it complies with US export restrictions. While on paper there is no difference between the GPU configuration and that of the Western model, the only difference is its AI power, which is limited.
For its performance, the General Manager of ASUS’ Chinese branch has therefore opted for a top-of-the-range version of the card. On the programme, we find an Astral model that goes cold. As a reminder, this is a version that caught our attention at CES with its more than generous dimensions.
Be that as it may, the card features a custom design with a redesigned PCB and a hand-picked GPU. According to TechpowerUp, their example reached 3,086 MHz when air-cooled. In Tony Yu’s hands, the card reached 3,390 MHz, a serious difference in frequency compared to the 2,407 MHz boost of the Founders Edition! As for memory, he also boosted it to 34 Gbps. Of course, the cooling was extreme, with liquid nitrogen!
In terms of scores, VideoCardz reports 43,372 pts on Port Royal and 36,884 pts on Fire Strike Ultra (graphical score). In any case, at this frequency and on its own, the card outperforms multi-card configurations like the dual RTX 3090 Ti, for example. As for power consumption, the complete configuration, based on Ryzen 7 9800X3D and X870E Hero, was rated at 1700W!
