aMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, has confirmed that their next-generation Zen 4 Ryzen processors and RDNA 3 Radeon RX GPUs should logically be on the market sometime in 2022. During the company’s quarterly update with its investors, AMD officials successively confirmed that they are on track for both product families to hit the market during 2022. We remain on track to launch next-generation products in 2022, including our Zen 4 processors built with advanced 5nm processing technology and our RDNA 3 GPUs. AMD CEO, Dr. Lisa Su Still, that “2022 current” has us worried about a “late 2022”.
The next Ryzen 7000 would arrive in the second half of 2022
It is on the second part of next year that the next generation of Ryzen CPUs will arrive. Many new features are planned for these processors in Zen 4 with first of all the arrival of a new socket, theAM5 (LGA1718) The performance should increase again with an improvement of 19% of the IPC. This new generation will use the 5 nm manufacturing process of TSMC. It is likely, however, that AMD will remain stuck on a maximum of 16 cores.
AMD will have two new Ryzen Desktop CPU families in 2022
Before the launch of Zen 4, we should see the AMD Ryzen 6000s with a Zen 3 architecture in 7nm, which are essentially processors from the current line but with 3D V-Cache memory as Lisa Su announced earlier this year. Still, this launch looks like a way to occupy the field which could also be a synonym for a very late arrival of Zen 4 in 2022. The good thing about this Ryzen 6000 series is that it could extend the life of the AM4 socket a little longer.
RDNA 3: the first chips with a MCM (multi-chip module) design.
This change of architecture comes with a lot of promises in terms of performance. The RDNA 3 family is expected to use TSMC’s 5n etching process.
The family of graphics cards resulting from RDNA 3 will compete with the range of Ada Lovelace GPUs from NVIDIA. The issue is therefore whether the arrival of an MCM design in GPUs will allow AMD to have a competitive advantage as it had with Ryzen CPUs. A lot of speculation is stirring up the networks on this subject while it seems that again, the products are not expected to arrive before the end of 2022.
