If you remember, a while back there were a growing number of reports of Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs going up in smoke. Unfortunately, most of these reports involved an ASRock motherboard. However, the brand does not consider itself responsible. Of course, we’ve reached that wonderful point where it’s ‘nobody’s fault’ or ‘just bad luck’.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D dead: it’s not ASRock’s fault!

In brief, we learn that ASRock tested a configuration whose CPU came back dead and that the brand found nothing in particular. In fact, after cleaning the socket and fitting an alternative CPU, it turned out that the configuration booted up without putting up the slightest resistance. What’s more, we have learned that the brand successfully carried out a stress test.

After a thorough inspection, the card was found to be clean. The power supply stage showed no traces of burns or other damage. The operating voltages of the various components were within the norms, and in the end, everything ran within the specified operating ranges. In short, the diagnosis is clear: ASRock concludes that the problem does not lie with them… At least, not in these cases of burnt-out processors.

Furthermore, the brand states that it launched a new version of the bios a few weeks ago. This new version, 3.20, corrects the start-up problems. Of course, if a more recent version is available, install it. Otherwise, if the problem persists, ASRock invites you to contact support if necessary.

In the end, it’s not impossible either that the strong presence of ASRock in cases of Ryzen 9000-related problems stemmed from a screwed-up bios, at least for those concerning boot failures. The cases of burnt-out processors are more problematic, but if ASRock is telling us that their hardware is working properly, whose fault is that? AMD? Maybe, remember that a 9800X3D also burnt out on an MSI X870E Tomahawk.
