A small MSI Bios update to put an end to blue screens!

Funnily enough, until now, some 13th-generation Intel CPUs could cause blue screens of death(BSOD) with Z690 and Z790 motherboards. In some cases, the blue screen in question displayed the error UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR. This concerned 13th-generation CPUs when mounted on a Z690 or Z790 motherboard, and MSI has now released a bios update to rectify the problem!

MSI bios update to correct BSOD caused by certain 13th-generation CPUs!

Windows BSOD MAJ Bios MSI

More precisely, it’s the 13th-generation processors with the following CPUIDs that are causing the problem: 0xB0671, 0xB06A2 and 0xB06A3… Finally, the problem only exists if you’re running Intel’s latest microcode in 0x119 or 0x4119 with the following Windows 10 and 11 updates:

  • Windows* 11 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2215): KB5029351
  • Windows* 11 21H2 (OS Build 22000.2360): KB5029332
  • Windows* 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3393): KB5029331

The temporary solution would simply be to uninstall these updates. Otherwise, in detail, the cause would be linked to the microcodes themselves, whose GDS_NO indicator values don’t match between P-Core and E-Core. This, coupled with the latest Windows updates, would lead to a BSOD.

New firmware versions 0x11D and 0x411D have been proposed by Intel to correct this problem. We seem to find them in MSI’s latest bios updates, which claim to correct this notorious error:
