Hator is a brand that’s still pretty unknown, but one that deserves more recognition. After testing their keyboard, the Skyfall 65 Mag Ultima 8K, let’s take a look today at their latest mouse: the Quasar 3 Ultima 8K. Boasting solid specs and a competitive price, this mouse is taking on the high-end market. It comes in two versions: a more ergonomic model and a “symmetrical” version, which is even lighter.

The peripherals market is becoming increasingly competitive, with new brands and offerings constantly entering the fray. Price is therefore the first factor Hator aims to leverage in its favor, with an MSRP set at €99.99. As we’ll see, this is a smart move.

Thanks to Hator for providing the two mice for this review.

Useful Information

Before beginning this review, let’s clarify one important point: both versions of this mouse share the same technical specifications, with the exception of their weight.
They are therefore primarily distinguished by their shape, which affects how they feel in the hand. To make this review easier to read, we will cover certain sections in common. You’ll find comparisons and details when it’s relevant, with shared specifications grouped together.

Box and unboxing

The box certainly stands out, with its bold yellow color and clearly visible black lettering. There’s also a visual representation of the mouse. The main information is displayed on the front, while the full specs are listed on the back.

Once opened, the box immediately reveals the mouse, wrapped in protective plastic. Under the protective mold, we then find all the accessories. And Hator hasn’t skimped on them!

Included with the mouse are:

  • The cable, USB-A to USB-C
  • A USB-C dongle for wireless mode
  • A small manual
  • Various stickers, always a nice touch
  • 2 sets of replacement feet
  • Grips to attach to the mouse
  • A storage/carrying pouch

These new mice clearly hold their own against the competition. And for good reason—they boast impressive specs!

Features

This model comes in two versions, which differ in size and shape as well as weight. The Quasar 3 features a more ergonomic design, measuring 125 x 64 x 40 mm and weighing 52 g. The Quasar 3S has a so-called symmetrical shape, with dimensions of 119 x 39 x 60 mm and a weight of 46 g. It is therefore slightly smaller, with an even lighter weight. In both cases, these are very lightweight mice.

If you’re not an expert, here’s what you need to know: the best sensor on the market, paired with an 8000Hz polling rate, and good switches. The advertised battery life is also a strong point.

The mouse therefore has 3 connection modes:

  • Wired
  • Bluetooth
  • 2.4GHz wireless

You can switch between these modes using a switch located on the bottom of the mouse. It lets you choose between off, Bluetooth, or wireless. If you want to use the mouse with its cable… just plug it in.

There is also a button that lets you switch between the different DPI modes. Finally, don’t forget to remove the plastic covers protecting your mouse’s feet!

A point not to be overlooked

Software is an important part of using a mouse; it’s the icing on the cake for a smooth and complete experience. And Hator has clearly understood this. So, what’s interesting?

Basic menu

When you launch the software, you can choose the language. You’ll see a reminder of the mouse model, accompanied by an image. The software also indicates whether the mouse is in wired or wireless mode.

The first menu allows you to configure the various buttons. For this test, we will leave their default assignments. You can also load and save up to 4 different configuration profiles. This can be very handy if, for example, you switch between multiple settings depending on your usage. You will notice the battery icon in the top right corner, which indicates the charge level.

The second menu allows you to adjust the DPI levels. You can customize up to 6 levels, or choose to use just one. You can then switch between these levels via the software or directly using the button built into the mouse. An LED located on the front of the mouse, behind the scroll wheel, will indicate the selected DPI level through its color. This menu also controls the polling rate, which can go up to 8000Hz in wireless mode.

The third menu concerns assigning shortcuts and macros. We won’t be using them in this test, but having the option is a good thing and will appeal to some users.

The last tab is more general, allowing you to check the firmware version and access a few other settings. Your mouse’s firmware will update automatically when the software launches.

Getting Started

This point is entirely subjective. Depending on the size of your hand, as well as your preferences regarding hand position and grip, the feel could be completely different.

What you’re about to read here is therefore my own personal opinion and won’t apply to all users.

Both mice feel quite comfortable to hold. They fit well in the hand, and you always have the option of additional grips if the original coating doesn’t suit you.

Personally, I find both mice a bit small, especially the 3S version. So I prefer the Quasar 3, which has a slightly “taller” shape but is also a bit wider. This prevents my finger from rubbing against the mouse pad.

Build quality

This is clearly a strong point of these mice. They’re sturdy and show absolutely no flex. This is all the more impressive given how lightweight they are. The finish is also exemplary, with a smooth, pleasant feel. All moving parts provide good tactile feedback when activated, with no unwanted movement.

The scroll wheel is notched and scrolls fairly smoothly. The switches feel very pleasant to use, with just one drawback: they’re slightly noisy. It’s nothing excessive, and you won’t hear them once you put on your headset. But we had to find a small flaw!

Sliding

The feet are well-made and don’t create any unwanted friction. The fact that the mice are very lightweight clearly helps, resulting in a very pleasant overall feel.

Especially in wireless mode, you almost forget the mouse is there. Movements are effortless yet precise.

The cable is very flexible, and the connector on the mouse side is slightly angled. This prevents the cable from touching the mouse pad directly where it exits the connector, which further reduces friction.

Although it doesn’t quite match the comfort of wireless use, using the mouse while it’s plugged in isn’t unpleasant at all.

[nextpage title=”Conclusion”]

So, what’s the final verdict on these two mice? Well, they’re a great success.

A fair price

Let’s start with the question you’re probably asking yourself: is the price justified? For us, it’s actually quite attractive.

In fact, this mouse has all the features of a high-end model. And yet, competitors in this category charge higher prices.

So that’s a strong argument in favor of these Hator mice.

A fully featured mouse

As we said, this mouse has everything a top-tier model does. And for good reasons : it features several well-designed elements, which isn’t necessarily the case with competitors.

The build quality is evident from the moment you pick it up, which is a very pleasant experience. Beyond that, the mouse offers nothing but great features.

A smooth scroll wheel, high-quality switches with a satisfying feel. Smooth yet controlled gliding, helped by the mouse’s featherweight design.

Switching between different modes is a one-click process, as is the quick DPI adjustment.

Software that lives up to expectations

This is an aspect that is often overlooked by some, yet it makes a real difference. Good software enhances the mouse experience, making it more comprehensive and enjoyable, and contributing to the overall feel.

It’s simple and intuitive to use. No hidden submenus, no unnecessary overlays. You have direct access to your settings—and there are plenty of them!

The software lets you manage and customize DPI mode selection, as well as adjust the polling rate. On top of that, you can set up macros and reassign button functions.

Another pleasant surprise is the availability of multiple profiles. You can create and save different profiles, then switch between them depending on your needs. This saves a lot of time if you do it often and contributes to a seamless experience.

Special mention

A mouse involves a lot of subjective factors, such as how it feels in your hand. This is also true for other small details, but that doesn’t stop us from appreciating them.

The bundle is particularly well-stocked, especially given the competitive price. It includes a nice selection of accessories, whether they’re useful or just for looks, like the stickers.

And how could we finish this review without mentioning the two-tone color scheme on our Quasar 3 Ultima unit? That blue-green gradient fading into white—what a beauty!

We liked:

  • Competitive price
