Since the latest NVIDIA driver update, GeForce 566.14, the company has discontinued its GeForce Experience software. The latter’s functionalities have been refocused in the brand’s new application: NVIDIA APP. However, not everything is going well, as the new application promises to be performance-hungry. In some cases, there are performance gaps of up to 15%. To counter this, we recommend that you deactivate NVIDIA Game Filters.

Deactivate NVIDIA Game Filters to limit the impact on performance!

L'application NVIDIA AppFor the record, it would appear that the features built into the software are resource-hungry. Tom’s Hardware investigated and measured the impact on performance of the brand’s new software. And it’s true that there is an impact, and it will be more or less flagrant depending on the game. On Assassin’s Creed Mirage, without the application, our colleagues measured an average of 137 FPS compared with 151.5 FPS without the application. By deactivating Game Filters, the average rises to 150.5 FPS, within the margin of error. This scenario will be repeated for all the games tested, to a greater or lesser extent.

All in all, it appears that deactivating Game Filters will restore performance. With the function active, the impact on performance averages 6% at 1080p, compared with 2.5% at 1440p. Note that the tests were carried out with an RTX 4060 in 1080p at different quality levels and in 1440p.

Obviously, NVIDIA is working on this issue in order to provide a quick fix. In the meantime, it is advisable to disable the feature. To do this, the brand provides the following procedure:

NVIDIA App Settings -> Features -> Overlay -> Game Filters and Photo Mode

All you have to do then is restart your games to get the most out of your PC‘s performance.

It remains to be seen how long the patch will be in place and what form it will take. Will it be deployed in a dedicated hotfix or when a driver is published? To be continued.
