Micron has announced the start of mass production of its 9th generation NAND TLC memory. At the same time, the company is announcing serious increases in performance. Good news for SSD performance in particular.
Micron’s 9th-generation TLC NAND enters mass production!
Just like that, with this new memory, the American company states that it is the world’s fastest TLC NAND. In passing, the company gives a few figures. These include a throughput of 3.6 GB/s per chip, and read and write speeds of 99% and 88% respectively.
This memory is already found in the SSD 2650 series. Other figures include a density 73% higher than the competition. On PCMark 10, scores are 36% to 40% higher than the brand’s rivals, depending on the benchmark… And all this with memory mounted on PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
The good news here is that as memory enters mass production, it should be available for purchase. This means that manufacturers like Corsair will be able to opt for this type of memory for their future products, for example. Likewise, it remains to be seen how PCIe 5.0 SSDs equipped with this memory will perform.
