Happy weekend to all computer park technicians, as Crowdstrike has given you a lovely present: an update that is leaving thousands of machines in the lurch around the world. In fact, this update affects all sectors: banks, airlines, etc., in fact!
Crowdstrike wishes you a great weekend!
Basically, Crowdstrike is a company specialized in cybersecurity that has deployed a very messy patch for Windows machines in the corporate sector. However, as many companies around the world use their services, chaos ensues.
Via The Verge, we learn that airlines around the world have seen their fleets grounded… Or are experiencing serious flight delays. Banks and news channels have also been affected. Sky News, a British channel, was unable to broadcast its morning news bulletin. Worst of all are the 911 emergency services…
In concrete terms, this update is causing boot loop and even BSOD problems. Apparently, the update (automatic deployment), which has since been withdrawn, would break the Windows bootloader. One way around the problem would be to boot into Safe Mode, go into the Crowdstrike folder and delete a system file.
In the meantime, the damage has already been done: on Reddit, some people are reporting that their business is at a complete standstill, with no PCs up and running. For others, 70% of portable machines are inoperable. In short, it’s a real mess, and some of them won’t be taking the weekend off any time soon, while others may even be on vacation. To them, we wish good luck! Incidentally, we’re still wondering why these kinds of messy upgrades are rolled out on a Friday?
