105W profiles from ASUS and Gigabyte!

Gigabyte and ASUS are following in MSI’ s footsteps by offering 105W profiles for the Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X. The basic aim of this type of profile is to increase processor performance by allowing them to consume more power. This mainly affects the performance at high frequencies.

105W profiles are also available from Gigabyte and ASUS!

In simple terms, these new profiles will allow your processor to consume more current. This has an impact on the frequencies they can reach and, above all, the length of time they can maintain them. Ultimately, you end up with improved performance thanks to higher frequencies maintained for longer.

Initially tested on Cinebench, the application of this profile at 105W resulted in a performance gain of 13%. However, more recent tests have mitigated all of this, as this gain is felt above all in professionnal applications, an area that takes greater advantage of your processor cores. On the other hand, in games, the gains are more measured, or even non-existent in some cases.

However, apart from the increase in power consumption and heating, there are no disadvantages to using it, since AMD has announced that it guarantees this usage profile. The brand is going even further by integrating it into its forthcoming AGESA 1.2.0.2 patch.

In the meantime, you’ll have to update your motherboard’s BIOS to see it appear.
