AMD has clearly announced it: its RX 7900 XTX is to be positioned in front of the RTX 4080 and not the RTX 4090. As everyone suspects, the RX 7900 will probably be less successful than the Nvidia cards on the real-time Ray Tracing… But in rasterization, the match should be interesting. And we might have the first results. Be careful though, the graph proposed here is not a real test but an extrapolation from the data proposed in the AMD presentation and crossed with the average of the data coming from the tests done on NVIDIA RX 40 cards. The proposal is based on 6 games run in 4K with maximum graphic detail, obviously without Ray Tracing enabled. The reasoning may seem far-fetched, however, the results are still likely enough to be discussed here. Once again, the figures used here come from the real tests of Nvidia cards and the official figures given by AMD.
Because without ray tracing, the performance of the RTX 7900 XTX is very good and regularly outperforms its direct rival. All this is achieved with a much more aggressive price. So we will have to watch carefully the real tests of AMD cards in the next days and watch the price positioning of the latter. As AMD is not really as good as Nvidia in providing reference cards in volume (thus at MSRP), the subject of partner cards will be hot.
