MSI RTX 4070 Ti Gaming Trio X:

Architecture:

As a reminder, there will be no ” Founders Edition ” cards offered by NVIDIA for the RTX 4070 Ti. You can therefore only buy partner cards and therefore, depending on the model, with very different prices.

This RTX 4070 Ti has an AD104 GPU with 7680 CUDA cores, which is 2560 cores less than the RTX 3080 Ti. It is equipped with a manufacturing process in 4 nm from TSMC and not the 8 nm made by Samsung which allows to lower the TGP to 285 watts.

On the memory side, there are 12 GB of 192-bit GDDR6X memory, which translates into 504.2 GB/s of bandwidth. On page four of our article, we will go into detail on the new features of this new architecture, including support for DLSS 3.

The bundle of this Gaming X Trio:

So what do we find in this box? We find and identify very easily the color code of MSI with the black color and the backlit claws, distinctive sign of the Gaming X Trio series. The box is quite large but still has standard dimensions. The dimensions of the box are 415 x 280 x 115 mm. The box opens on the side to reveal the RTX 4070 Gaming X Trio.

Once removed, we find a small box that contains the adapter for the power supply of the card. It is a 16-pin (12+4) adapter to two 8-pins of 150w (300w in total). This adapter is necessary for those who do not have a power supply with a 16-pin port or the adapter for their power supply. There is also a support for the graphics card so that it does not bend when inserted in your motherboard.

Cooling:

This MSI RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio has the dimensions 336 x 140 x 58 mm and will occupy 3 slots on your motherboard. This model is part of the MSI “Gaming X Trio” series. This means that the card already benefits from factory overclocking. Aesthetically, the card is less aggressive than the previous generation while retaining a charcoal and dark gray fairing. It is a model that will be able to match with many motherboards. MSI also uses an efficient cooling system, silent and benefiting from two BIOS: silent and gaming.

We are dealing here with a custom card, that is to say with a cooling system specific to the brand. The card is equipped with three 95mm fans from the TORX FAN 5.0 series, which are inserted into a plastic casing. Each fan has 9 blades. The main change is that the fans have three blades connected at the top. This design allows for better air flow to the latest generation Tri Frozr 3 cooling system.

The nine fan blades are slightly curved to optimize airflow. Our sample features ” 3D Active Fan ” technology to leave the fans idle if the GPU temperature does not require them to run.

The aesthetics, fairly neutral, should suit many users. Two BIOS are also present, a Silent mode and an OC mode. By default and for our tests, we will use the OC mode.

Radiator:

The radiator is quite imposing and has been completely reworked by MSI. The idea is to reduce noise pollution by guiding the air where it will be most effective in cooling the card. The use of Wave-curved 2.0 fins in the shape of waves, allows the air to flow smoothly, for a quieter cooling.

The radiator is made up of three distinct parts. One is responsible for dissipating heat from the graphics and memory chips and the other two for the power supply stages, while also using different thermal pads.

The radiator is crossed by six 6mm copper heat pipes. The part in contact with the GPU has been machined to ensure a sufficient contact surface to dissipate the heat over the entire length of the heatsink. We also notice the presence of a fairing placed on the PCB which has a double role. It also allows to stiffen the PCB but also serves as a dissipater for the power supply stages. As for the backplate, it allows to stiffen the PCB and to avoid that it twists under the weight of the card.

Yes, a bit of RGB:

The card benefits from areas benefiting from RGB backlighting but without going overboard, and that we appreciate. On the front panel there are two pairs of three claws located at the top and bottom of the central fan. On the upper left side we find the logo and the MSI inscription. It is thus possible to set the backlighting of the graphics card and synchronize it with that of your other components, if they are of course compatible. The various settings can be made via the MSI Mystic Light software. For the other settings, you can use MSI Dragon Center.

Connections :

To power the card, we find the new 16-pin mini-connector. As we mentioned above, NVIDIA provides in its bundle an adapter to connect two 8-pin connectors.

The card has three DisplayPort 1.4 video outputs and an HDMI 2.1 port.
